What is Deso?
Deso is a fat dissolving injection that helps treat localised, stubborn pockets of fat on the face and body that just won’t shift with diet and exercise. It is a form of lipolysis, a non-surgical treatment which accelerates the body’s natural fat removal process.
The active ingredient is deoxycholic acid – a bile acid which naturally emulsifies and solubilises dietary fats in the intestine. It is a cytolytic medication which means it helps break down a specific type of cell; in this case fat cells, when injected under the skin to give a slimmer and firmer outcome.
How does it work?
The area of concern is injected with Deso to liquefy (and permanently destroy) fat cells, which drain naturally through the body’s lymphatic system over the course of a few weeks.
Deso is separated into concentrations for the face and the body, and is an effective treatment for a double chin, love handles/ saddle bags, inner arms, stomach fat, upper arms, inner thighs, knees and more.
While Deso is not designed to treat obesity, the injectable treatment is a successful solution for targeting specific areas of fatty tissue.
When will I see results?
Most patients start to see results in the treated area after 2 to 3 weeks. It is important to remember that this is a more gradual treatment option as the body must drain the destroyed fat cells through the lymphatic system. This can take up to ten weeks.
How many treatments do I need?
The number of treatment sessions needed is dependent on the amount of fat to remove and will be discussed at your consultation.
Does it hurt?
The treatment itself is under local anaesthetic but as with all injectable treatments there is some discomfort. Expect redness, stinging and swelling afterwards. Avoid hot showers and exercise on the day of treatment. Use ice packs and wear compression garments (Spanx) 72 hours or as needed after treatment. There is minimal downtime compared with surgical options such as Liposuction.
How long do results from Deso last?
Because Deso destroys fat cells, results are permanent providing you maintain a healthy diet and a healthy active lifestyle.
